Armed youths have reportedly been behaving antisocially in a town centre, leading police to implement a dispersal order.

Essex Police yesterday (April 11) put in place a dispersal order in Brentwood's High Street after reports of a significant number of young people causing a disturbance, some of whom said to be armed.

The order gave officers the power to tell anyone suspected of causing antisocial behaviour to leave the area and not return within 48 hours.

Multiple calls had been made by concerned residents and police subsequently attended.

"A decision was then made to put a dispersal order in place to reduce the risk of further antisocial or violent behaviour in the area," Essex Police said.

The order, which covers the area shown in the above map, was in place until 6am today (April 12).

"Thankfully, there are no reports of any injuries whatsoever," police added.

The order, made to prevent further disruption to people and businesses in the area, has since been lifted.
