Romford residents have reminisced about the beloved Woolworths store, saying they loved "everything" about the retailer.

This comes after HH Holding chief Roman Heini, of the company which saved the Woolworths brand in Germany where it is known as Woolworth, hinted at the resurrection of the store in the UK.

Once boasting three branches in Romford, Woolworths was a key player on the high street for more than 100 years before its closure.

Comments from Recorder readers on Facebook reveal a deep sense of nostalgia for the store fondly known as 'Woolies'.

Residents spoke of their favourite purchases, from records and CDs to Christmas presents - with many simply saying they loved "everything" about the shop.

One resident, Stephanie Rachel, said: "Loved Woolies as a kid getting my 45 and then my CD on a Saturday morning."

Another commenter Cheryl Johnson added: "Loved it, Woolworths sold everything, even things you didn't know you needed."

The mix of items sold was a key distinctive feature fondly mentioned in remembrance of the former store.

For one commenter, Amanda Sena, the revival of Woolworths could be an opportunity to rejuvenate Romford.

She suggested that a "decent Woolies" might attract more people to the town.

Despite the overwhelming affection for the store, some residents questioned if a relaunched Woolworths could ever replicate the sentiment of the past.

One reader said: "Would it really be the same though?

"Times have changed."

For now, the fate of Woolworths remains in the hands of Mr Heini who has yet to confirm any definitive plans.
