From The Cauliflower in Rainham, operating as a restaurant today, to The Bell Inn which closed in 2017 due to "serious violence", there is plenty of pub intrigue to see.

Three Crowns in Rainham Ferry

Three Crowns in Rainham Ferry sat by the riverside and was enjoyed by large crowns in its time.

Running for generations, sadly Three Crowns closed in 1972, according to Havering Libraries.

Challenges such as the need for increased security measures during WWII had isolated the pub, leading to its closure.

The Cauliflower in Rainham

The former pub still operates as a restaurant today.

It became a pub in 1878 from a row of four cottages and in that year was licensed to sell beer.

The Cauliflower closed as a pub around 1996 and Mr J.Urdin opened what was initially called the River Ganges Indian Restaurant, soon to be Shanti Indian Restaurant, according to Havering Libraries.

The Phoenix in Rainham

The Phoenix Hotel included an extensive beer garden which had an aviary within it, according to Havering Libraries.

Disaster struck in 1891 when the Chelmsford Chronicle reported the destruction of the Phoenix Hotel by fire on Saturday July 25.

But it was rebuilt by J.S. Hammond of Romford and remains open today.

The Bell Inn in Rainham

The Bell Inn has gone through a turbulent past.

Its name was said to relate to church bells as it sat adjacent to Rainham Church yard.

In 2017, the pub had its license suspended after reports of serious violence, according to Havering Libraries, and following that it closed for good.

The Cherry Tree in South Hornchurch

The Cherry Tree, named after the cherry gardens there, was licensed in 1773 according to Havering Libraries.

In 1883 it was included in a list of freehold premises owned by The Hornchurch Brewery.

It closed on May 2010 and since then has been a Tesco Express shop.
