Police have urged witnesses to come forward to help enquiries into a light aircraft crash in Upminster.

One man suffered potentially life-changing injuries in the crash, which happened shortly after take-off, near to Damyns Hall Aerodrome at around 12pm on April 4.

A woman was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police, London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade and London's Air Ambulance were all in attendance on the day.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters worked for about an hour to free the man and woman, who were trapped inside the plane.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch is leading enquiries into the circumstances of the crash, a Met Police spokesperson said.

But the force is urging anyone who saw what happened or has any footage of the incident to contact it on 101 and quote reference CAD: 2936/04APR23.

It comes after the AAIB issued its own appeal for dashcam footage, reported on by the Recorder earlier this week.

The branch said the aircraft flew over Aveley Road before the crash.

Witnesses with information or footage can contact the AAIB during office hours on 01252 510300 or enquiries@aaib.gov.uk.
