A tribute show to two of the most successful pop groups of the 1970s and 80s is to grace the stage in Southend.

Thank You For The Music is now into its 19th year and will feature hits from chart-topping groups Abba and the Bee Gees, at the Cliffs Pavilion in Station Lane on Saturday, October 6.

Mamma Mia! and Dancing Queen are among some of the tracks performed by the group and Bee Gees’ songs such as Stayin’ Alive and Night Fever are sung by the trio called Bee Gees Magic.

“Now in their fabulous 19th year, the superb, all-star cast have entertained the nation for longer than Bjrn, Agnetha, Benny and Anni-Frid did during the 70s and 80s,” says producer Michael Taylor.

The group have had a makeover for 2012 with new costumes, choreography and a revamped score aiming to keep the musical fresh.

Martin Spooner, who plays Bjrn in the show, said: “Few bands can claim to have made as big an impact on British pop music history.

“Their million-selling hits – such as Dancing Queen; Super Trouper; Knowing Me, Knowing You and Mamma Mia! – are eternal. Abba’s music is as popular today as it was in their Seventies and Eighties heyday.

“Thank You For The Music continues this incredible legacy.”
