Audiences are in for plenty of swashbuckling fun when The Pirates of Penzance is performed in Romford.

The Gilbert and Sullivan comic opera is being staged at the Brookside Theatre in Romford War Memorial Social Club, in Eastern Road from September 24 to October 4.

Plot

Long before Captain Jack Sparrow, a very different Pirate King, dominated the high seas.

The show features a rollicking band of pirates and there are a bevy of adorable maidens, a bunch of blundering policemen, a handsome pirate apprentice and a fading nursemaid who all cross paths as a charmingly ridiculous plot comes to life. Written in 1879 The Pirates of Penzance has continually proved to be a hit with worldwide audiences and critics.

It was the fifth Gilbert and Sullivan collaboration and introduced the much-parodied Major-General’s Song.

Regarded by many as a gloriously topsy-turvy work, this timeless classic is a theatrical treat for all the family to enjoy.

The West End’s Drew Baker will direct the 18-strong cast which features some of the UK’s most talented, up-and-coming professional performers.

n Tickets are 11 for adults and 9 for children and can be booked online via www.brooksidetheatre.com or by calling the box office on 01708 755775.
