If you want to listen to an album of psychedelic and indie music, then Jail and the Big Guns is definitely the band for you.

The Havering-based group, made up of lead vocalist J-Leo, lead guitarist Nick Myers, rhythm guitarist Marc Skelton, bass guitarist Jonathan “Buster” and Pete Brown on the drums and vocals, have put together a 15-track album, Boom boom!

The record kicks off with The Fringe, which sets the tone for the rest of the album with its blend of electric guitar and bass which takes listeners back a decade, drawing influences from artists such as The Libertines.

Though the track does take a while to get going, it builds towards the end, turning into a catchy head-bobbing and fist-pumping tune.

The third track, Battery Chicken Operator, is also a memorable song with its stand out title and unusual lyrics – the toe-tapping number does get stuck in your head from the second you press play.

But the song basically shows listeners a different dimension to Jail and the Big Guns as they slow down the pace, giving it a similar relaxed indie sound to Coldplay. J-Leo’s vocals have a very relaxed and laid back vibe, making the songs seem almost effortless to produce, which makes the album an enjoyable one to listen to.

The occasional throw back to the 1960s with tunes such as Coco and Countbackwards does make the album appeal not only to the rockers of today, but also to those who grew up in that period.

Boom boom! is a collection of tracks with an indie rocker feel with a twist of the sound from a different era thrown in, that many lovers of music would adore.
