Rainham rocker Bob Etherton is tipping his pop-rock band The Montossorri Jacks for great things – especially now that he has his 17-year old daughter, Charlotte, by his side.

Taking inspiration for their name from a Burger King favourite, which includes monterey cheese, the father and daughter, along with two other musicians, Dennis Cordina on drums and Mick Hart on guitars, have begun to circulate on the local, live music scene, where they have been wowing the crowds.

Bob, of Allen Road, is no stranger to the music business having performed during the 1970’s supporting bands, such as Thin Lizzy in the Southend area.

But for self-taught singer and guitarist Charlotte, a student at Havering Sixth Form College, Hornchurch, it’s a brand new experience that she is thoroughly embracing.

Bob, 59, said: “Charlotte taught herself how to play guitar from the internet and then began to write her own songs.

Surprised

“I was pleasantly surprised when she performed them to me and they were actually really very good! I knew the songs could benefit from having a little bit of music behind them and from there the band was born.”

He added: “Charlotte writes the lyrics and some basic chords and then we play around to create the right track and the right sound and having different musical tastes really helps to create it and it’s great we can even rehearse at home!”

But bass guitarist Bob maintains: “It’s less about the talking and more about the playing, although I’m encouraging Charlotte to interact more with the crowd.

“It’s all about encouraging one another to improve and having a good time.”

The Montossorri Jacks have recently played their first two gigs after forming about a year ago.

In June they performed at SoundQube at the Queen’s Theatre in Billet Lane, Hornchurch where they did their own version of a Supertramp track Breakfast In America, which went down a storm with the crowd.

For the band, the future looks bright, Bob said: “We’re going to keep playing and we’re actively looking for venues in the local area and even London.

“Its early days, but I’m sure that there are great things ahead for us – especially for Charlotte.”

The band will be performing at the Essex Arms in Brentwood on Saturday September 1.
