Award-winning director Ian Talbot OBE brings a light-hearted stage show, based on the novel by Richard Gordon to a Chelmsford theatre.

Doctor in the House will have a week long stint at Chelmsford Civic Theatre, from Monday, April 30 to Saturday, May 5.

It stars one of Britain’s best loved funnymen, Joe Pasquale and award-winning star of stage and screen Robert Powell.

Doctor in the House follows the inexperienced young medical student Simon Sparrow as he begins his five-year internship at St. Swithin’s Teaching Hospital, where he continually runs foul of head surgeon Sir Lancelot Spratt.

Sparrow’s social life gets spiced up when he is taken under the wings of two student repeaters, in the form of Tony Grimsdyke and John Evans, to farcical consequences.

The original Richard Gordon novel remains a classic in its own right and is based on Richard’s own anecdotes and experiences of pre-war medical school.

The cast includes Emma Barton, best known for playing Honey Mitchell in EastEnders, Gay Soper, last seen in Lend Me a Tenor in the West End and Tom Butcher, who played PC Steve Loxton in the Bill and Dr Marc Elliot in Doctors.

Tickets are 18 to 24.50 and you can book through the Box Office on 01245 606505 or online at www.chelmsford.gov.uk/theatres.
