Come wind, rain or shine nothing beats this nationwide teatime favourite! We're on about fish and chips of course and we want to hear just how good your local chippy makes it...

Whether you prefer yours with a side of mushy peas, some curry sauce, a dollop of ketchup, or the perhaps more controversial gravy, there's no getting around that when some cod and chips or a battered sausage is on the menu, it's music to our ears!

It reminds us of days by the sea on a coastal holiday, of washing newspaper ink from our hands after clutching our chips, and of cherished moments spent with family and loved ones as we tucked into this hearty meal!

And of course, this adoration is by no means a fast or fleeting fling. It's thought fish and chips were first served together as a meal in the mid-19th century, before evolving into a household staple, as a filling, affordable family meal that brightened everyone's day. The dish was even reprieved from rationing during both the First and Second World Wars, in recognition of its significance and ability to warm the hearts and bellies of the people!

Today, it's estimated that British consumers eat some 382 million meals from fish and chip shops every year, according to the National Federation of Fish Friers. That's a lot of fish and chips, which is why we feel it's only right to give something back to the many great fish and chips shops that we frequent every week, and you can help!

We want to hear about your favourite chippy, where it is you love going above all others, and where you would always recommend to a friend. Whatever it may be, we're inviting readers to vote for the best fish and chip and shop.

Tell us about your favourite fish and chip shop

We're inviting you to nominate your favourite fish and chip shop to enter our competition. All we ask is that the chippy in question is located within our newspaper's distribution area.
