Australian backs Elite League challenge

Davey Watt believes Lakeside Hammers can enjoy a good run as they look to maintain their Elite League title challenge.

Knocked out of the KO Cup by Coventry, after a pair of below-par displays, they return to action at Birmingham tomorrow (Thursday).

Second-placed Hammers host Swindon in a televised meeting on Monday, having beaten the Robins on an emotional evening last month following the death of captain Lee Richardson.

Australian ace Watt rode to a full maximum in that 50-40 success and will look to lead from the front again.

He said: “We are in a good position, but there is a long, long way to go yet and a lot of races to be won.

“The character of this team has been tested a fair bit already and, okay, we are out of the Knockout Cup, but we kept our chins up and were fighting all the time in a bid to get back into the tie.”
