Romford youngster in Renault Clio Cup action

It proved to be a tough weekend for Romford’s Aaron Thompson in the latest Renault Clio Cup rounds at Oulton Park.

The JamSport driver had produced a strong qualifying performance to find himself in a career-best fourth position heading into round seven at the Cheshire track on Saturday.

However disaster struck and it all went wrong for the youngster as he spun off on the formation lap, breaking his car’s steering against the barriers, meaning he was unable to take his place in the race.

Thompson did make it out for round eight on Sunday and in a shortened race, after a heavy crash involving Jack McCarthy at the high-speed Druids Bend, he was able to come home in 12th spot behind team-mate Graham Field.

That leaves Thompson in 15th place in the overall standings with 38 points to his name after eight rounds and he will be hoping for better luck when heading to Croft on June 10-11.
