Local resident finishes third and fourth in opening round at Donington Park

Rainham’s Rob Guiver made a steady start in the first round of the Ducati Cup last weekend at Donington Park.

Guiver, racing for Hyside Motorcycles of Romford, produced two good finishes to pick up 26 points and place third.

He started the weekend in confident spirits after finishing the free practise and qualifying session in second, which put him on the first row for race one.

The local resident failed to get off to a good start and by the end of lap one he had dropped down to fourth in the table.

Gradually he regrouped and by lap two had moved back up to third and got into second before a seven rider crash forced an immediate red flag.

For race two Guiver again started on the front row, but was in third spot this time, yet he made a steady start to proceedings.

But a poor spell during the middle of the race saw the Rainham rider lose several places and have a fight on his hands to recover.

Guiver again battled well and managed to get up to fourth, which earned him some valuable points in the season opener.

The local resident is third in the season standings with 26 points and trailing leader Joe Collier by 11.5 points after round one.
