Hammers hoping to trump Aces again

Kevin Doolan will make his Lakeside Hammers debut in place of the injured Stuart Robson in tonight’s Elite League clash at Belle Vue.

Robson hurt his shoulder riding for Premier League outfit Newcastle against Workington on Saturday.

And his absence is a blow for Hammers, as they head to Manchester hoping to complete a quickfire double over the Aces.

Lee Richardson and Piotr Swiderski shone as Hammers raced to a 48-41 win on home shale on Friday, following their 47-43 victory in Swindon the night before.

Ex-Robin Richardson reeled off five successive wins before trailing in last in heat 14, while Peter Ljung also returned a double-figure tally at the Abbey Stadium.

Co-promoter Jon Cook said: “Right from the start (in Swindon) we showed that we meant business and along with a sublime performance from Lee I felt the rest of the team, with Peter (Ljung) and Piotr (Swiderski) in particular, showed that even when missing the start they had the determination to fire themselves to the front.

“I was very pleased for our team manager Neil Vatcher, who has started to really find his feet with the team and his calls from the use of rider replacement at No.2 to changes in the meeting were spot on.

“He and the boys have a great rapport and his arrival at the club has been a big positive.”

Belle Vue boss Jim Lynch, meanwhile, is looking for his side to set the record straight at Kirkmanshulme Lane.

He said: “This team is perfectly capable of finishing in the top four if everyone performs to the best of their ability. We must avoid what we have done before this season when we have undone good work away by losing at home.”
