Hammers hunt Panthers

Elite League

Peterborough Panthers v Lakeside Hammers

Hammers make their first trip of the season to the East of England Showground, following Peterborough’s late entry into the Elite League.

Panthers, and Coventry, withdrew from the competition during the winter break after a row at the annual speedway promoters AGM and the matter looked set for the courts, before peace was restored.

Hammers go into tonight’s meeting on the back of a slender 47-46 victory over Wolves, in front of the live Sky TV cameras on Monday, and will hope Lee Richardson is fit to ride after a heat 15 crash with teammate Piotr Swiderski.

Richardson pulled out of the re-run due to a finger problem, but team boss Jon Cook will hope to name an unchanged line-up.

It was a solid, if unspectacular, performance against Wolves, with all riders contributing, but none claiming more than 10 points.

Stuart Robson won two races, while Richardson, Adam Shields, Swiderski and Robert Mear added one victory apiece.

Cook has hinted at making changes, though, as Hammers face a two-week break after this weekend, before returning to action with KO Cup ties against Birmingham on June 9-10.
