School Sport: Tough return for Redden Court

Basketball squad beaten by rivals
Redden Court’s girls basketball squad returned to Essex League action this week for their second competitive basketball fixture, but their Fitzwimarc rivals proved yet another strong opponent.
Fitzwimarc showed their superiority throughout the game and the Redden Court girls, beaten by Greensward Academy in their opening match of the campaign before Christmas, found themselves 13-0 down at the end of the first quarter.
The home side continually hit Redden Court on the break and converted most of their chances, making it extremely difficult for the Harold Wood pupils to reduce the deficit.
Although the Redden Court girls did not play to their full potential, they did create scoring opportunities as the game progressed.
But unfortunately the visitors did not make their free shots count and did not convert enough of their chances until later in the game.
Bethany Johnson impressed through for Redden Court, scoring the majority of their baskets and driving the offence in the final quarter of a 64-15 defeat.
And Redden Court will look to bounce back when they play host to Shenfield High School in their next Essex League fixture on Monday January 20. The match tips off at 3.30pm.
Squad: Emily Roofe, Scarlett Jacks, Bethany Johnston, Tayler Martin, Grace Pickford, Lucy Eost, Emily Diwell, Josie East, Grace Deavin, Amy Pinkney, Louise Banham-Scott.
*Redden Court’s girls played their latest match in new basketball kit, which had been purchased with money collected for the PE department by staff, governors and parents in a fundraising event at the school before the Christmas holidays.
