Coopers Coborn’s under-16 girls got the better of their under-18 rivals in a hockey friendly this week.

The younger group ran out 2-0 winners during the lunchtime meeting at the Upminster school to give themselves plenty of confidence for their trip to the East Region tournament in two weeks time.

And their success came after the under-14 girls had romped to a 9-1 victory over Sacred Heart and beaten a strong Bishop’s Stortford College side 2-1 ahead of their East Region event next week.

The year eight girls’ badminton team began their season with a hat-trick of 5-0 wins over Abbs Cross, Sanders and Chafford School.

And the year seven netball team opened their Essex Cup campaign with a 15-7 win over their rivals from Barking Abbey.

There was further success for the under-15 boys’ rugby team, who edged past Trinity Catholic School 14-12 to progress in the Natwest Vase competition.

And the under-14s beat King John 28-24 in their group, their second success in three outings, with a clash against Campion still to come later this month.
