St Edwards 66 Redden Court 70
Redden Court’s year 10 basketball boys got the better of St Edwards in the latest match of their four-game series.
Despite a low scoring fourth quarter, the damage had been done in the first half with Redden Court producing a well-disciplined and efficient display.
With key players Charlie Haddon and Enock Sagonile absent it was up to the rest of the squad to ensure St Edwards did not take the opportunity to level the series.
Jonathan Doku impressed playing a year up, with his point scoring performance not going unnoticed.
And the return of forward Daniel Francis from lengthy injury also proved a huge bonus for Redden Court, although they were left feeling a little frustrated after giving Saints an outside chance in the closing stages.
Squad: Jed Roofe, Dan Ogoro, Daniel Francis, Connor Hartwell, Stephen Banham Scott, Henry Jonivanicas, Jack Duggins, Jonathan Doku.
The year nine squad fell to a 46-28 defeat against their St Edwards rivals.
Saints dominated the contest throughout and were good value for the win, although the high scoring Max Shepherd and Jonathan Doku did their best to rally the Redden Court troops.
A well-drilled Saints led by 10 points at the start of the final quarter and eased to victory to level the series at one match each.
Redden Court know they must improve if they want to close the gap before they next meet.
And the return of Jordan Cornell and the performances of the year eight boys involved will give them hope that, with some good practice time, they will run their opponents closer next time.
