Hockey squad work hard indoors

Redden Court’s under-16 girls gave a good account of themselves at an indoor hockey rally at Sacred Heart.

Although beaten 2-0 by the hosts, as well as Hall Mead (2-0) and Coopers Coborn (3-0), the squad was well prepared on set-plays and positioning having worked hard at training sessions.

Goalkeeper Robyn Smith put in some excellent performances, making some key saves with good anticipation and reaction skills, but the player of the tournament for Redden Court was Emily Diwell whose hard work and speed of thought was excellent.

Teacher Jenny Canty said: “Although the girls lost their three matches, they were able to compete against experienced club players who have represented Essex and also England.”

Squad: Emily Diwell, Emily Roofe, Grace Pickford (Captain), Scarlett Jacks, Hannah Cando, Ridima Thapia, Lucy Eost, Elsa Sibley, Pheobe Holland-Haines, Robyn Smith.

n Year 10 pupil Amy Pinkney represented Havering’s intermediate girls at the Essex Schools Cross-Country Championships at Colchester Hilly Fields and showed grit and determination to finish the 4.4k course in 21 minutes 11 seconds.
