Football squads impress in cups and tournaments
Redden Court’s female footballers have been getting their kicks this term.
The under-13s kept their cool to beat Frances Bardsley in a penalty shoot-out to reach the quarter-finals of the Essex Cup.
Sarah Henderson gave Redden Court the lead, but the hosts levelled before half time.
Year seven pupil Lilly Swift restored Redden Court’s lead with a superb left-footed strike and Ellie Camden, another year seven, produced an outstanding performance with important tackles and interceptions.
A third goal eluded Redden Court, though, and Frances Bardsley levelled to force penalties.
Elize Bonning had replaced Jess Jones in goal during the second half and she saved two spot-kicks as her team-mates converted theirs to seal victory.

The Hall Mead keeper then saved a Henderson penalty and the follow-up attempt, before Kristy Robinson fired over the bar.
And Robinson went close again after great play from Freya Duffy, hitting the crossbar.
Adams made it 2-1 after great work from Robinson, but Hall Mead turned things around with the slope in their favour in the second half to score three unanswered goals for a 4-2 lead.
Bonning ran on to Henderson’s pass to net Redden Court’s third to give them hope, but Hall Mead had the final say.
