Havering Cup: Frances Bardsley 1 Redden Court 0

Redden Court’s under-14 girls were edged out by Frances Bardsley in their Havering Cup derby.

Windy conditions made for a scrappy first half, with both teams struggling to find their passing rhythm.

Redden Court had the best opportunity of the half, with Lucie Ballard making a diagonal run to collect a pass from midfield but her shot was collected by the keeper.

Katie Adams came on as a substitute midway through the first half to rest the legs of Josie East, who had completed a fitness test earlier that day. Adams looked lively and linked up play well, but Frances Bardsley were looking to hit Redden Court on the break and the visitors needed an excellent covering tackle from left back Jamie Hartwell to keep the score at 0-0 at half-time.

The second half started a lot better, with both teams aiming to add pace to their game.

This suited the players of Redden Court, who all have great technical ability on the ball, and they played some excellent football, working the ball from left to right.

Substitute Alanah Jefferies had also completed a fitness test earlier in the day and worked hard to put the Frances Bardsley defence under pressure, as Redden Court looked the more dangerous team going forward.

But Frances Bardsley were always a threat on the right hand side and this is where the decisive goal came from against the run of play.

Redden Court responded well, but Frances Bardsley were happy to clear the ball and hold onto their lead.

The visitors switched to a more attacking formation to leave three at the back and it nearly proved costly when a long ball from the Frances Bardsley centre-back reached the speedy right winger.

But Holly Carnera read the situation perfectly and managed to make a last-ditch tackle to keep Redden Court in the game.

Time ran away from Redden Court, though, as Ellie Luxton took their player of the match vote having protected the defence well and distributed the ball impressively.

Redden Court: Katie Hawkes, Kristy Robinson, Grace Roberts, Alanah Jefferies, Josie East, Louise Banham Scott, Jamie Hartwell, Elize Bonning, Ellie Luxton, Olivia West, Lucie Ballard, Katie Adams, Sarah Henderson, Holly Carnera, Cerys Heard.

*Redden Court’s year 10 pupil Enock Sagonile has been invited to a final trial for Essex Schools under-15 squad to be held at Brampton Manor School today (Thursday).
