Essex Cup: Marshalls Park 3 St Bonaventure’s 2

Marshalls Park’s year seven boys booked their place in the next round of the county cup with a hard-fought win over Newham’s St Bons.

The first half was a tight affair, until the final 10 minutes when the team combined to score four goals.

St Bons took the lead with an attack on the right, which saw the ball cut back for their centre-forward to tap home from close range.

But Park rallied and were soon back on terms thanks to a superb free-kick from Freddie Potts, who picked himself up after being fouled and fired into the top right hand corner.

The Romford pupils struck twice more in quick succession to take control of the tie, with Bradley Gray showing plenty of determination to give his side the lead, before teeing up Michael Kinata to score the third at the far post.

Park were forced to defend for much of the second half and, although St Bons managed to claw one goal back, they held on to progress.

Head of PE Paul Aylett said: “I’m really pleased with the boys and look forward to seeing who we get in the next round.

“We have the National Cup on Friday, so we hope to progress in that as well.”
