Marshalls Park’s year seven boys booked their place in the third round of the National Cup with a hard-fought extra-time win last night.

The home side started well, attacking down both wings and had a several shots on target.

The Park defence dealt well with the visiting attack and the hosts kept a good shape to their side, taking the lead midway through the first half with captain Owen Knapman striking the ball past their keeper.

Sedgehill were a strong team, though, and at times Park were struggling to keep up with them, but showed great resilience.

The visitors continued to dominate in the second half and equalised with 10 minutes to go, with both teams having opportunities to go on and win the game.

But it remained all square at the full-time whistle and the tie went to extra time.

Having had to play the extra period in their previous match, the Romford pupils were comfortable with upping the tempo and got the winner with three minutes to go, thanks to an excellent strike from man of the match Charlie Howell.

PE teacher Paul Aylett said: “This was a great result for us, as we had not played at our best. We will be heading to Kingston for our third round tie.”
