Marshalls Park’s under-13 girls enjoyed a convincing win in their first rugby match against Hedingham School and Sixth Form College.

With a smaller squad size than anticipated due to illness and injury, there were some inexperienced players in the Park squad.

But the team started as they meant to go on, with great handling, and Park played smart rugby throughout.

The Romford pupils attacked the space, utilising pace of Anderson and Cunningham on the wing to outrun the Hedingham girls.

And Park had built a 40-5 lead by half time, ensuring the second half was largely academic.

Superb tackling from Tibbs, Potter and May led to some great turnovers as Park continued to dominate, with the tries shared around the team.

But the Hedingham girls battled throughout and were a credit to their school and student coach, with heads held high throughout.

A Marshalls Park spokesperson said: “It was a really pleasing first performance for the Marshalls girls and particular mention to Poppy Le Beau for an outstanding tackle!”
