Pupils combine to collect medals at British Championships
Brentwood Prep’s under-11 girls fencing team scooped gold at the British School Team Fencing Championships for the second time in succession.
Maddy Gale, Freya Collins and Esha Parmar took the accolade in convincing style, beating Guildford High School 45-34 in the foil final.
Brentwood is one of the strongest fencing schools in the country and fielded 17 teams in the championships at Medway Park, Gillingham.
Fencing master Chris Galesloot said: “I am delighted with these results and the way all Brentwood School fencers presented themselves during these championships.
“They acted as team players. There was a lot of support for each other, also from the fencers that did not win a medal.
“These results show that we are one of the strongest fencing schools in Britain. I am especially happy to now have won the under-11 girls foil trophy for the second time in a row. The future of Brentwood School fencing is looking very bright!”
Louise Bender, Isabella Hall and Sarah Dawe combined to win the bronze medal, while Harriet Ellis, Elisha Odotei and Connie Bell won under-13 foil bronze.
Oscar Holt, Adam Perilly and Henry Wenham won under-15 epee bronze, along with Luke Cooper, Luke Hampson and Tom Woolterton while Harriet Evans, Eleana Winand and MacKenzie Hinds won epee bronze and sabre gold.
Laurie Collins, Robert Lissman, Janith Thanthulage and Edward Bell added bronze in the under-18 foil.
