Year seven squad crowned Havering champions
Albany’s year seven netball squad were crowned borough champions on their own court this week.
The Havering rally was staged at the Hornchurch school and Albany’s Lauren Sailsbury, Libby Hearn, Nicole Vann, Grace Kurti, Fine Okemadu, Jessica Beardsell, Kirra Hill, Grace Taylor and Amy Cleasby sailed through the group stages, winning every match.
That set them up for a semi-final meeting with St Edwards, which they won by a 5-2 margin.
And the final with Coopers Coborn was one of the closest matches seen, as the two sides traded goals throughout.
Honours were even at 6-6 at the end of normal time, so the teams played a further six minutes of extra time.
And, after a nailbiting finish, Albany clinched the title with a 9-8 victory.
Teacher Laura Abbott said: “The girls now go on to represent Havering in the next round of the school games competition. Well done girls – we’re very proud of you!”
Albany currently stand at the top of their league table, having won every match played so far.
And they are now preparing for a rematch with Coopers at the league finals, again to be staged at Albany, on Monday March 24.
