Sacred Heart under-16s were crowned Essex netball champions after a dominant display at the county finals of the National Schools’ Championships.

They defeated rivals from Bancrofts, Coopers Coborn, Chingford Foundation, Forest, Robert Clack and Sydney Russell to clinch the title, scoring 52 goals in total and conceding just 25.

It is the third successive year that the Upminster school have progressed to the regional round in January, but the first time they have done so as Essex winners.

Teacher Sarah Braiden said: “The squad played fantastically well as a team. It’s a fantastic achievement.”

The Sacred Heart pupils received their trophy from Australian player Ash Neal, a member of new Vitality Netball Superleague side London Pulse, who are set for a tri-tournament with Severn Stars and Celtic Dragons at the Copper Box Arena on December 15.

The Superleague season starts on January 5.
