Youngsters went the whole season unbeaten

Romford under-eights finished the season with a perfect record of 25 wins from 25 games after beating Harlow in a four-match series on Sunday.

Tension was high heading into the weekend, with the youngsters aware of what was at stake.

However, once the game started, Romford showed no signs of nerves as they took the match to Harlow.

Newcomers David Tappis and George Lecomber both impressed for Romford throughout the day as they faced a Harlow squad who were able to rotate their team.

From the off, Romford were all over Harlow, pushing them back, keeping up the defensive line and closing down any options.

Romford also impressed in attack too as they caused the Harlow defence plenty of problems.

The first three games of the series went the way of Romford before the fourth match ended in a 9-9 draw in sweltering conditions.

“It’s been a pleasure to coach them this season and I believe they have the making of a real team in the rugby sense, a brotherhood,” said coach Marvin Oliver.

Romford: Sam Playle, David Tappis, George Lecomber, Rocky Slade, Strake Brannon, Riley Claxton-Smith, Jimmy Doman, William Oliver, Max Salmon, Freddy Clark, George Hillar, Brian Corr.
