Upminster Under-7s impressed at the Harlequins Cup

Rivals focus on cup action

Intermediate Cup

Saffron Walden (9-0-11) v Romford & GP (16-1-4)

These London Division Two North East rivals go head to head in cup action this weekend, having each won on home turf in their league meetings.

Park suffered the heaviest of their four defeats this season at Saffron, going down 29-18.

But they gained ample revenge in the return at Crow Lane, romping to a 51-10 success.

Coach Mark Collins was in the crowd when Saffron won in the previous round at Hemel and is more than aware of their strengths.

But with his side’s play-off dream finally over, he will be looking for some cheer in the knockout competitions in the closing weeks of the 2010/11 campaign.

Senior Vase

Lowestoft (18-1-2) v Upminster (9-1-11)

Divisional rivals face off in this Vase tie in Suffolk, with Upminster looking to avoid a hat-trick of defeats against their hosts.

They put up a fight in a 17-6 reverse on their previous trip up the A12, but were well beaten at Hall Lane earlier this year, going down 56-27.

A mid-table position has been secured by Upminster, but Lowestoft are just a point behind Basildon at the top of the pile and have piled up the points on their own ground all year long, which makes it a daunting test.
