Locals return to league action

London Division 2NE

Basildon (11-0-3) v Romford & GP (14-0-0)

Something has to give at Gardiners Close this weekend.

Romford still boast a 100 per cent record this season, after 16 wins in league and cup action.

But Basildon are unbeaten on their own turf and won 20-15 at Woodford last weekend, while the rest of the division had a free Saturday.

Division 3NE

Newmarket (2-0-12) v Campion (3-1-10)

Campion travel to basement boys Newmarket this weekend for a crunch relegation clash.

Beaten on their own turf by Stowmarket two weeks ago, and edged out at Wanstead the week before that, the Cottons Park outfit can give themselves some breathing space with victory in Cambridgeshire.

And they have a score to settle, having lost 27-14 when the two sides met in early October.

Upminster (7-0-7) v Wymondham (6-0-8)

Upminster will be hoping to complete a hat-trick of wins in 2012 at Hall Lane this weekend.

Having ended Holt’s 100 per cent record with a 23-10 win in their first outing of the new year, Upminster edged to a 15-10 victory at lowly East London two weeks ago.

But mid-table rivals Wymondham come looking to complete a double, after a 33-10 success in the earlier meeting between these two sides.

Essex Division 1

Old Cooperians (4-2-4) v Millwall (2-1-7)

Coopers also go looking for a third successive victory at St Mary’s Lane this weekend.

They ended 2011 with a 24-16 win at Pegasus, then got the new year off to a superb start with an 18-14 triumph at table-topping Billericay two weeks ago.

Honours finished even at 12-12 when these sides met in the Docklands, but Coopers should be confident of success this time around and could climb up to fourth.
