RFU Intermediate Cup, 3rd round

Welwyn GC v Romford & Gidea Park

All-conquering Park have now played nine, won nine in London Two North East to sit nine points clear at the top of the table.

They needed a late try from Joe Howard to see off Lowestoft for their latest triumph at Crow Lane last weekend and coach Mark Collins expects lots more hard games to come.

Welwyn’s record in London Two North West suggests they might not provide the sternest of tests for Park, with only one win, a draw and seven defeats to their name thus far.

But Collins is on his guard and said: “We want to do well in the cup, but we’re there to win the league first and foremost.

“We will make a couple of changes to rest a few and rotate the squad to keep them all interested.

“We’ll see how we fare in Hertfordshire. It’s always difficult for Essex teams.”

Romford will welcome special guests to Crow Lane on Sunday as Premiership champions Saracens pop in – and bring their trophy with them.

Sarries will watch the club’s minis and youths and have their photos taken with the young members.
