Campion and Coopers march on
Campion and Coopers are both progressing well in the Daily Mail Schools rugby competitions.
Hornchurch’s Campion, cup winners in 2001, made it through to the fifth round with a 37-7 win over Colchester RGS.
They will face the winner of the tie between Bishop’s Stortford High School and Hampton School before the Christmas holidays.
Meanwhile, Upminster’s Coopers Coborn & Company progressed in the under-18 Vase with a 34-20 win over Davenant.
They were 8-0 down inside 10 minutes, but Charles Azoba hit back with a try.
The two sides traded further scores, with Joe Bilton and Luke Taylor also touching down and Andy Dennis adding a conversion to leave Coopers 20-17 behind.
And Coopers came from behind for victory, as Kolade Awobowale and James Perkins saw their tries converted by Dennis, who also added a penalty.
Graeme Walters said: “I was really pleased. They were a big strong set of boys but we battled well up front and worked hard.
“The backs used the ball effectively, but we were always chasing the game until the last 10 minutes.
“We showed a lot of spirit and commitment. Closing games out has been a problem this season, but we’re evolving as a team.
“We’re playing a different style to the past and I’m very encouraged by what’s happening.”
Coopers are due to face KEGS or Brentwood in the next round.
