Pat Reed acknowledges there may be some added pressure on Old Cooperians at Millwall in London Three Essex on Saturday.

The St Mary’s Lane club make the trip to Millwall, who remain the only side in the division yet to win after six games this term.

On paper, it seems Coops are the favourites to get the better of Millwall, something which head coach Reed admits puts his team under a little more pressure.

But Reed was measured in his response, noting the St Mary’s Lane club can only control what they can control on Saturday.

“We just know the best thing for us is to play how we want to play on Saturday. For a team like Millwall without a win, all it takes is one game for that to change,” he said.

“In a hypothetical world, Saturday might be the first time this season that Millwall have their strongest team available and other teams won’t have played against that.

“We have to be wary of Millwall and we’ll approach the game knowing they have the quality to cause us problems.

“People from the outside might look at it thinking the pressure is all on us because Millwall haven’t won this season.

“We know the challenge that lies ahead, but we’ll just focus on the game and take it as it comes.”

Coops head for Millwall after winning 36-7 at home to Canvey Island in the league last Saturday.

Josh Sansom and Barney Moul were among those to score tries for the St Mary’s Lane club in the success, while Joe Bilton and Arron Applegate played well.

It was a first league win in three matches for Coops and Reed was pleased to get back to winning ways.

“It was nice to be able to play good rugby and it was a rare time we had something close to our best XV out there,” he added.

“We still have a few players making their way back to fitness, but we showed the quality we have on Saturday.

“The team played well on the whole and it was a great all-round display.

“They all pulled together, especially when we went down to 12 men because of injuries.”
