St Mary’s Lane club beaten 27-12 by league leaders on Saturday

Pat Reed was gutted Old Cooperians were unable to take any points from their 27-12 defeat at home to London Three Essex leaders Epping Upper Clapton.

The St Mary’s Lane club suffered a second straight defeat in the league, despite Jack Portsmouth crossing the whitewash and also being awarded a penalty try.

Coops matched the leaders for long periods, but were ultimately undone by two Epping tries early in the second half.

Head coach Reed says the St Mary’s Lane side knew it was always going to be tough against Epping, but was gutted his team ultimately had nothing to show for their efforts.

“We did well for large periods of the game. We fronted up in the forwards and had Epping rattled at times,” said Reed.

“It was a slow start to the second half that hurt us and though we were able to come back into it, we couldn’t finish our chances.

“The biggest disappointment was not being able to take even a bonus point of some form from the match.”
