No rescue for Romford

London 1N: Romford & GP 13 Luton 17
Romford & Gidea Park came agonisingly close to hauling themselves out of the bottom two in London One North in their final outing of the season.
But a bonus-point defeat against Luton at Crow Lane was not enough to haul them above relegation rivals Ipswich towards the foot of the table and they are resigned to play at a lower level next season.
John Davies returned at fly-half for the home side and his experience proved vital as they built an early lead.
Jack MacVeigh, son of director of rugby Ged, made his first start and kicked Park into a 25th-minute lead with a penalty.
Reece Parr touched down on 36 minutes after a strong drive from the Romford forwards and MacVeigh’s conversion made it 10-0 at the break.
Luton hit back with a try to the right of the posts after good work from their own pack eight minutes after the restart, with the successful conversion cutting the gap to three points.
MacVeigh’s second penalty of the match put Park 13-7 up on 53 minutes, but the visitors hit back with a carbon-copy score of their first try to edge into a one-point lead on the hour.
Another MacVeigh penalty attempt slid just past the posts and Luton successfully converted a kick of their own at the other end two minutes from time to complete the scoring.
