Upminster say goodbye to ‘true character’

Upminster Rugby Club members bid a sad farewell to Fergus Lamont this week, after his sudden death at the age of 48.

Lamont was known to many in Essex having played for the Hall Lane club from a young age and gone on to captain both the first and second teams.

A member of the hugely successful Upminster veterans side in recent years, Lamont is survived by partner Jo and children Josh and Olivia.

Club spokesperson Donna Farrow said: “It was with much sadness that Upminster said goodbye to one of its largest characters, Fergus Lamont.

“His sudden death was untimely and extremely sad for the club, already reeling from a year in which all too many friends have been lost.

“His funeral was a true celebration of a larger than life man and a close friend.”
