Two tries from Sally Tuson not enough to help local team claim silverware

Essex Ladies suffered a narrow 32-29 defeat to Leicestershire on Sunday in the final of the County Cup.

The contest at Richmond turned out to be a thriller, but ill-discipline cost the local team in the end.

Sally Tuson and India Harvey gave Essex the perfect start by going over for tries to give them a 12-0 advantage.

Leicestershire responded impressively and got back on level terms before more points were scored.

Tuson went over again for Essex and it gave them a 22-12 lead at half time, as they eyed a triumphant end to the campaign.

But Leicestershire’s forward soon got on top and forced the opposition to give away a number of penalties.

Essex were handed a first yellow card and their rivals took advantage to move in front after a try and a successful penalty.

Another sin bin saw Leicestershire go over again and although Essex fought back, it was too little too late.
