Cottons Park club won 13-10 on Saturday

Pat Hallahan hailed Campion’s resolve after grinding out a 13-10 success at home to high-flying Chelmsford in London Three Essex.

A Dan Bolton try and eight points from the boot of Matt Meehan saw the Cottons Park outfit return to winning ways in the league.

Campion, though, were made to work hard for their success by second-placed Chelmsford, who were looking to keep pace with leaders Epping Upper Clapton.

Head coach Hallahan was pleased with the mental toughness displayed by the Cottons Park club to triumph, and also feels they can be proud of their display on the whole.

“It was a great win and some of the rugby we played in the first minutes was among the best we’ve played this season,” he said.

“Chelmsford worked their way back into the match and their kicking game put us under pressure, but we dug in to hold on.

“It was never going to be a high-scoring game and both defences were strong, but thankfully we made the most of any lapses Chelmsford had.”
