Romford's women celebrate after their latest win

Romford’s women took a much firmer grip on top spot in Essex League Division Two with a resounding win over Colne.

Having moved to the summit a week earlier with a 7-0 win over Redbridge seconds they romped to an 11-1 success at Bower Park Academy.

Captain Nat Earnshaw led the way with five goals, while Leah Butcher also netted a hat-trick.

Lorraine Farnham scored twice and Emma James completed the rout.

That improved their goal difference to plus 39, but second-placed Crostyx thirds are one point back and could take over this weekend with a win at Southend & Benfleet.

Romford do not play again until January 5 – when they visit Crostyx!

The seconds drew 2-2 with Witham thirds, with goals from Sarah Blake and Kemi Olofinjana.

And the men’s seconds were 6-0 winners over Brentwood fifths, with Jim Venus hitting a hat-trick, Rob Smith bagging a brace and Sean Simpson also on target.
