Great day for King’s Chase club in first round ties
It may have only been the first round of the County Men’s Singles, but the Bank Holiday bowls bonanza turned up a clash between two of the heavyweights of the Area 7 players.
Richard Bolton of Romford is a former county singles champion, but he faced the experienced Seaton Corby from King’s Chase in round one.
The match was played at the Romford club, but in the end it was the Brentwood-based player who came through with an impressive 21-14 win.
Corby will now face another King’s Chase bowler in Rob Fleming in round two next Monday after he came through via a walkover against Simon Brown of the Liberty of Havering Club.
Also through to round two is St Chad’s bowler Stuart McKenzie. He battled to victory against P Topley of Brentwood by 21-15 and will now face another King’s Chase bowler in Conway Fleming.
It proved a good day for King’s Chase with Fleming coming through against J Hicks of Gidea Park by 21-14.
Colin Morton was in stunning form against fellow Romford BC man Steve Pickford as he dispatched his club mate in ruthless style by 21-6.
He will come face to face with the experienced John Tully in the next round after he had the game of the day in Area 7 against Dave Jarrold of St Chads.
In a match that could have gone either way, Romford man Tully came through 21-19.
Steve Mitchinson received his second walkover of the competition against Alan Davey of Haynes Park and he will face either his triples and fours team-mate Nigel Smith in the next round, or another King’s Chase bowler in Chris Martin. They are due to meet at a later date.
The next round takes place this coming Monday.
