Under-20 bronze for GB youngster
Romford’s Glenn Billing admitted he felt like he was dreaming after winning another medal for Great Britain at the World Championships.
Billing helped the under-20s win bronze at their Division One event in France at the weekend, having won Division Two gold a year ago and bronze with the under-18s in March.
He said: “It’s a week I will never forget and to win three World Championship medals in a year is unreal – I have to pinch myself to realise it’s not a dream!
“I’m very grateful to everyone who has helped me get to this point and hopefully there’s more to come.”
GB upset top seeds Slovenia 3-2 in overtime in their first match in Megeve and after a 9-3 loss to Poland, edged past hosts and eventual gold medalists France (4-3) and Ukraine (5-3) to clinch third place.
Billing picked up an assist and played alongside another former Romford junior in Toms Rutkis.
He added: “I feel very honoured to be able represent my country. It was a great tournament and I loved every minute of it.
“We had a great group who gave it their all and battled every night. To get a bronze medal was an amazing feeling. Nobody expect us to get anything out of the group.
“We were the underdogs in every game, but I think we embraced that underdog spirit and surprised teams seeded higher than us.”
