Former players back for challenge

Romford Raiders will welcome six Finnish players back to Rom Valley Way for a challenge match this weekend.

Timo Kauhanen, Jaakko Komulainen and Jani Lehtovaara enjoyed several seasons at the club, winning league, cup and play-off honours between them, while Ville Lilja, Tedy Salutskij and Antti Makikyro had shorter spells in gold and blue.

But they will all be back in town with Finnish club side Hernesaaren NaaDat Miehet on Saturday to take on the current Raiders.

And Romford player-coach Danny Marshall is looking forward to the reunion.

He said: “I’m looking forward to seeing the boys again. I’ve got a lot of respect for them and it’ll be interesting to see how they do against my boys!

“There should be some good play and it will allow us to concentrate more on the technical side.”

Captain Anthony Leone added: “I played with most of them and it should be a really good night.

“They were good players and they’re still not that old so it should be a good game, but we’ve got to make sure we win!”
