Golfers chasing Thornton Cup glory

Romford Golf Club go in search of the greatest prize in Essex golf at Wanstead today (Sunday).

The Heath Drive outfit make their first appearance in the final of the Thornton Cup for a decade as they take on holders Chelmsford.

Romford’s last appearance in the showpiece event was also against Chelmsford and ended in an 8-7 loss at Canons Brook.

But they are looking forward to the chance to redress the balance this weekend, with co-captain Ian Seymour saying: “The team and the club are looking forward to their first final in a decade.

“The players have put in a lot of effort and we hope for a favourable result against last year’s winners Chelmsford.”
