Billing and Bell head to World Championships
Former Romford juniors Glenn Billing and Denis Bell will be going for gold with Great Britain at the World Under-18 Championships in Scotland next week.
The pair, who now play for Swindon and Milton Keynes, were named in the squad earlier this year and begin their campaign against Holland in Dumfries on Monday.
They also take on Korea, Romania, Croatia and Lithuania and Billing said: “We had a great camp in February and we are all raring to go for gold in our home World Championships.
“I’m really looking forward to the opportunity that has been given to me and am confident we can achieve our goal of promotion.
“We have a talented team who work hard and have the same honour and pride as I do when they pull on the shirt.”
n Another former Romford junior, Callum Wells, will represent the England under-16s in the prestigious Chris Verwijst Tournament in Tilburg, Holland from March 26-31.
The Chafford School pupil now plays his club hockey at Chelmsford, alongside a few former Romford teammates.
And the England team will finalise their preparations for the event by facing off against a Scottish Conference team in Hull this weekend.
Mum Lianne said: “Hopefully they will get some wins in Tilburg, although this is an extremely tough tournament with teams competing from all over Europe.”
