Hockey men and women earn full points

Romford’s men and women were able to enjoy a much-needed win double in their latest East and Essex League outings at the weekend.

Goals from stalwart Stuart Boyling, Matthew MacAulay, Ashley Meyer and Alfie Harvey – on the eve of his 18th birthday – saw the men beat Harlow 4-2 in their Division Five South East clash at Robert Clack.

And the women earned only their second success of the Essex Division One season as they beat County Wanderers, 3-2, in their basement battle.

Katie Williams, Natalie Earnshaw and Lucy Williams were all on target for Romford, who remain at the foot of the table but have closed to within two points of their nearest rivals.

They visit Brentwood seconds in their last match of 2016 this weekend, while the seconds host Redbridge thirds looking to bounce back from a 4-0 defeat against Braintree thirds.

The men’s seconds lost 7-1 to Chelmsford sixths last weekend, with Jim Venus on target, while the thirds drew 1-1 with Wapping’s 11th team, as MacAuley netted.

They are set to visit Tower Hamlets tomorrow (Saturday).
