London Raiders forward Sam Roberts was delighted to do his bit to help secure victory against Bracknell at the weekend.

Roberts netted twice in quick succession to put the shortstaffed hosts on top, only for the Hornets to hit back with a rapid brace of their own to level.

But Slavomir Buda’s 49th-minute goal proved decisive as Raiders skated off 3-2 winners for two vital points.

Roberts said: “As usual we were not the quickest out of the blocks, but it’s nothing that we aren’t used to.

“We soon found our feet and got on the scoreboard in the second period, in what was a fast-paced period from both sides.

“And a beautiful goal from Slavo in the third gave us a little relief and I’m glad we went on to win the game.

“It’s always nice to get points and especially two goals in one game which is rare from me.

Again it’s just hard work is paying off for me and I’m finally feeling like I’m contributing and helping the team get the wins we need.”

Roberts was also named as man of the match for Raiders for his two-goal display, but felt it could have gone to any of his team-mates.

He added: “It’s always a great feeling getting the beers, especially after getting two goals, but everyone deserved them to be honest. It was another great team performance.”

Raiders, who were without brothers John and Ross Connolly and fellow defenceman Julian Smith last weekend, will hope to have some bodies back for a double-header this weekend.

Alan Blyth’s men welcome Milton Keynes Thunder to Lee Valley on Saturday, before travelling to leaders Chelmsford the following night.

And Roberts sees no reason why they cannot add to their points tally, having beaten the Chieftains home and away in the cup already this season.

He added: “Milton Keynes are always a team that work hard and skate hard for 60 minutes but I think if we play like we have been we will have no problem with taking points from them.

“Sunday’s game against Chelmsford will be the third one this year and I’m 110 per cent sure it will be three out of three!”
