Reel Trickyone aims to complete a clean sweep of Romford’s major six-bend races when he lines up vying for favouritism in the £10,000-to-the-winner Coral Champion Stakes final at the Essex venue tonight.

Champion trainer Mark Wallis and the dog’s owner Chris Richards have seen their runner grab gold in both last year’s Essex Vase and then January’s Coronation Cup, both events over the 575m distance.

And an imperious performance from the three-year-old in Friday’s semi-final set up the real possibility of what would be a ‘Romford Grand Slam’.

Semi-final night saw a host of shocks, including the elimination of defending champion and track record holder Airport Captain, not to mention Adageo Bob, a kennelmate of Reel Trickyone’s, whose run of 11 straight wins was ended by the latter.

It means Fivestar Clipper, trained by top Hove handler Derek Knight, is favourite in many people’s eyes to complete an unbeaten run in the decider. He has produced top drawer efforts in heat and semi-finals and has his favoured trap six draw.

Katest betting: 6-4 Reel Trickyone, Fivestar Clipper, 7-1 Soviet Kenny, Sinbad, 10-1 Longrange Denis, 33 Millwards Master.
