Captain Leone tries to lift spirits

Romford Raiders captain Anthony Leone says his side will bounce back from their double defeat last weekend.

Edged out 1-0 in their Essex derby at Chelmsford, Raiders slipped to a 4-2 home defeat against defending champions Invicta the following night, having been beaten 3-1 by the Isle of Wight a week earlier.

Leone netted both goals against his former Dynamos teammates and said: “It’s not as if we’re playing bad and getting beaten badly.

“We’re keeping it tight at the back, but we need an extra guy to start putting some points on the board.

“It’s frustrating. We’ve got to work a bit harder, but hopefully a new import will take some pressure off Danny [Marshall] and Frankie [Harvey].

“You don’t get many 1-0 games. We had a goal disallowed [at Chelmsford] and their player should’ve been thrown out early.

“Their goalie got a bit lucky, some shots went off the top of his stick and we hit the post a couple of times.

“We kept it tight against Invicta too and as long as there’s only one goal in it you’ve got a chance.

“They only got their fourth goal late on but we’ll upset them big teams this year. We won’t roll over.”
