South East Trophy: Streatham 2 London Raiders 3
London Raiders served notice of their improving form with victory over the Redskins in south London last night.
The hosts were without Nicky Chinn, Chris Wiggins, Michael Ranby and former Raiders duo Ryan Giles and Joe Allen, but had Casimir Britton and Jack Tarczycki back from injury and just about had the edge in a scoreless opening period, dominating the shot count 15-12.
Raiders made a bright start to the second period, but Streatham opened the scoring when Adam Wood’s shot on the turn beat Michael Gray.
It was all square again less than five minutes later, though, as Michal Oravec drifted into space and fired a shot into the top corner of David Wride’s net to score against his former club.
The visitors had the better of things before the second break, but could not find a way to edge in front until the 46th minute when Marek Nahlik forced the puck past Wride from close range.
Nahlik made it 3-1 four minutes later, attacking on the right wing and behind the net before scoring with a wraparound finish.
But Redskins rallied and Kamil Kinkor hit a post before Dom Hopkins fired home from the blue line to make it a one-goal game with just under nine minutes left.
Gray held firm in the Raiders net, though, to finish with 43 saves in a man of the match display as the visitors claimed a notable scalp and made it three wins in a row.
Raiders return to Lee Valley to host Invicta in the National League on Saturday (5.30pm), before welcoming Chelmsford the following night for a rearranged South East Trophy clash.
