ENL fixtures released

Romford Raiders will begin their quest for English National League honours with a trip to Milton Keynes Thunder on Saturday September 3.

Fixtures for the 2011/12 season have been released today and Romford’s first home game will be against defending league champions Isle of Wight in the newly-formed South East Trophy on September 4.

Chelmsford and Invicta complete a four-team line-up in that competition, with clubs playing each other home and away.

Romford’s first home league game is against new boys Slough, who earned promotion from Division Two last season.

Then, after a trip to Bristol, Raiders host Oxford before their first Essex derby of the season against Chelmsford at Rom Valley Way on September 25.

Their other home derbies are on January 2 and 15, while Raiders visit Chieftains on October 30, November 19 (trophy) and January 22.

Should the title race go down to the wire, Raiders visit Cardiff and Slough in their last two regular season matches, before the play-offs start on April 7.

Team manager Mick Cahill said: “I’m pretty happy with what we have and I’m grateful to Romford Junior Ice Hockey Club for their assistance.

“There’s a spirit of co-operation between teams this season that may not always have existed. With seven Sunday teams in an 11-team league it was never going to be perfect and we knew we’d have to play some home games on a Saturday.

“I’m happy with just seven out of thirty home dates.”
